How long will the course take?

We expect that on average the course takes roughly 50 hours to complete. In addition to reading, the exercises require much time. You can do the course at your own pace, but we recommend trying to finish in 6 weeks (in our experience, having a deadline makes it more likely students will finish the course).

What percentage of the questions need to go right to complete the course?

You should answer all the exercises and get 60% right to complete the course.

Do I get a certificate for passing this course?

Yes, you'll get a certificate. You have passed the course after you have answered all the questions, and 60% of the assignments have been completed correctly.

Who created the course and how?

The idea was initiated by the student-run accelerator Kiuas, an active member in the startup community – they approached Aalto University and pitched the idea to other partners, who were quick to jump on board.

How can I get 2 ECTS credits?

Open University of University of Helsinki:

Once you have completed the course and received your certificate, You can apply for 2 ECTS credits through the Open University of the University of Helsinki.

In the field Your email address on the MOOC course, enter the same email address that you used to complete the course. Otherwise, we can't verify that you have completed the course.

Reaktor Education becomes MinnaLearn

When we at Reaktor Education set out to launch Elements of AI with the University of Helsinki in 2018, we couldn’t foresee what was coming up. Four years, ten courses, and 800 000 students later, we have clearly demonstrated the need for accessible online learning designed for the 99%, not just the privileged few.

The Education team at Reaktor has grown from an aspiring initiative to a viable company to stand on its own. Our team, our product, and our partnerships will move to MinnaLearn, a brand new company. This will unlock the opportunity for us to fully focus on building the next stage of online learning for the future of work.

How this affects you

Besides the new MinnaLearn brand, we are not introducing any drastic changes right now. We are still the same team, just twice as motivated, building learning experiences for a more equitable, skilled, and enjoyable future of work.

How long will the Emerging Technologies -course take?

We expect that on average the course takes roughly 8 to 10 hours to complete. In addition to reading, the exercises require some time. To break down the learning into manageable increments, we have designed each chapter section to take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.

What are the requirements for completing a course?

Please note that to pass the course, you need to complete 100% of the exercises and get 60% of the exercises right. Correctness is calculated as the average correctness over all the completed exercises (so each exercise has the same weight).

Also, note that your final score will not be shown on the course certificates.

Can I get ECTS-credits from the Emerging Technologies -course

At the moment, there is no possibility to apply for ECTS credits for the course.

Is there any programming or math in the Emerging Technologies -course?

No programming or advanced math is needed in completing the course. There are some exercises that require a bit of basic math, but nothing to be afraid of! These courses are designed to be easily accessible and understandable for people with different backgrounds.

What are the requirements for passing the course?

There is no grade, but the number of exercises you complete is tracked. To get the certificate, you need to answer all the questions and get at least 60% of them correct. The course facilitator will award you the certificate after the group sessions.

How long will I have access to the self-study materials?

You will have access to the course for one year from the purchase date
