MinnaLearn platform

This privacy policy explains what personal data MinnaLearn collects on you when you sign up for and use MinnaLearn platform and how we use such data.

Should you have any questions or requests regarding the processing of your personal data by MinnaLearn in relation to the course, please send such questions to hello@minnalearn.com.

Data controller

The data controller is:

We may also disclose certain data to our partners who provide courses and learning groups together with us in MinnaLearn platform, for example disclosure of data on participation in courses to the universities for the purpose of granting ECTS credits, or data on course progress and success to your learning group host or the organization providing the course. Such partners shall be data controllers in their respective roles regarding such data. More information about data disclosures is provided under section 3.

Categories of personal data and purposes of processing the personal data

When you sign up for MinnaLearn, we ask you to provide us with the following information:

Your name
Password
Email
Country of origin
Language

Depending on which features you use in the MinnaLearn platform, we might also collect and process the following information derived from your use of the platform:

Identification details (e.g., student number)
Details on participation in different courses to the extent necessary for the course-related obligations towards our partners (e.g., Regenerative Farming)
Reference number for payment transaction
Details on your background, the education you have taken or attended, and responses to surveys or similar activities to build your learner profile. This helps us tailor learning experiences to better suit your needs. Completing your learner profile is voluntary.

When you use the platform and attend courses, we also collect data on tasks and exercises related to the courses available in MinnaLearn.

We also compile statistics and analytics data on the use of MinnaLearn and participation in the courses.

We use the above-described information in order to provide and maintain MinnaLearn courses and services, send notifications regarding MinnaLearn (e.g., status messages), process applications to the courses, manage participation in the courses, and confirm the completion of the courses.

The processing of your personal data is based on consent given by you.

You don’t have to give us your personal data or give your consent for processing it, but in that case we are not able to provide you with our services.

We will store your data as long as necessary for the purpose of maintaining your MinnaLearn account and carrying out our tasks related to the operation of the platform. We assess the accuracy and necessity of data collected in the context of the platform on a regular basis. Personal data will be retained for up to five (5) years after your last sign-in, unless a longer retention period is required by law or necessary for the resolution of legal claims. You may ask us to delete your account and personal data at any time. If you wish for your account to be deleted and your data to be removed, please check section 8 below for instructions.

Provision of data to third parties

We share information about your data described above in Section 2 with the learning group administrator. In addition, we share data with the administrators of any organizations you may join. If you are participating in a learning group or a course provided by your employer or another organization, we may also share relevant data with that organization.

We also share aggregate statistical data on courses provided in MinnaLearn with our partners.

In addition, as regards certain courses organized jointly with another organization we may also share your data described above in Section 2 with such other partners operating as independent data controllers. These partners include:

If you wish to have credits from your university organizing the course with us, we can also share your data with the university to the extent this is necessary for such credits.

Otherwise, we use your data only for the above-described purposes.

As is customary, we use software-as-a-service tools and other IT services provided by third parties. You can read about such third party services in the below section 4.

Third Party Services Providers and Transfer of data outside EEA

We store personal data primarily on servers located within the European Economic Area (“EEA”) using services provided by Amazon Web Services.

In some cases, personal data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside the EEA, which may have different data protection standards. These transfers occur when we use third-party service providers or infrastructure located outside the EEA. MinnaLearn takes measures to ensure that the transfer of data complies with the applicable laws. Such transfers are conducted using appropriate data transfer mechanism such as EU Standard Contractual Clauses or EU – US privacy framework, as set out in the data processing terms of each respective service.

Your Rights

Within the limits of applicable legislation, you have a right to:

access to your personal data. You may request us to confirm whether we process your personal data, and a copy of your personal data possibly processed by us, by sending us such request at the email address mentioned below in this privacy notice;
rectification and/or erasure of the data. You may request us to correct your personal data that is erroneous or inaccurate, and further, you may erase your personal data by following instructions given in below section ”account deletion”;
restrict the processing of your personal data. In certain situations, you may request us to restrict the processing of your personal data by sending us such request at the email address mentioned below;
data portability. You may request us to provide you with your data in a structured, commonly used and machine readable format so that you can transmit your data to another controller by sending us such request at the email address mentioned below. This right concerns personal data in an electronic format, the processing of which is based on either consent given by you or performance of a contract;
withdraw your consent. Where the processing is based on a consent given by you, you may withdraw such consent at any time by erasing your personal data by following instructions given in below section ”account deletion”; and
file a complaint with a supervisory authority. If you wish to file a complaint as to how we process your personal data, according to the GDPR, you have a right to file a complaint with the supervisory authority in the member state where you live or work or where an alleged breach of the GDPR has occurred. In Finland, the Data Protection Ombudsman acts as the respective supervisory authority (www.tietosuoja.fi).

Data security

We take information security and protection of personal data seriously. Personal data is protected from unauthorised access and processing as well as against unlawful and accidental destruction, loss and corruption by using industry standard information security technologies. In addition, we constantly improve practices in order to protect personal data.

Other

We do not use automated decision making, such as profiling, in MinnaLearn platform.

Account deletion

If you want to delete your account and your personal data connected to it, please follow these steps:

1. Log into your account in any of the participating MinnaLearn courses.

2. Go to your profile view and request an account removal there.

Changes to Our Privacy Policy

We may modify this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes to how we process your personal data, we will provide you with prominent notice, such as by posting a clear notice on our website or by sending you an email notification to the email address associated with your MinnaLearn account. The "last updated" date at the top of this privacy policy indicates when it was last revised.
